In simple terms
To hold means keeping a position open instead of closing it. The action may last minutes, months, or years; the word alone does not define the time horizon.
It differs from HODL, a term from Bitcoin culture now associated mainly with long-term crypto holding through large price swings.
What it does not say
“I am holding” does not explain why, how much exposure is involved, or what will cause an exit. Holding may follow a documented thesis or become inertia. Duration and outcome alone prove neither discipline nor error.
Making it verifiable
An operational description adds instrument, quantity, horizon, maximum risk, and exit condition. This separates planned patience from hoping instead of managing. Crypto positions also require attention to volatility, liquidity, custody, and platform risk.
