Cumulative delta or CVD: meaning

Cumulative delta and CVD mean the running sum of volume delta within a defined window. The reset and starting point are part of the measure.

In plain terms

Cumulative delta, often abbreviated CVD, is a counter that adds successive volume delta values. It shows the cumulative balance of classified volume over the selected window.

How the term is used

The curve can be compared with price or across points in the same session, provided the feed, classification, and reset remain unchanged. Cumulative Volume Delta explains the sum, a numerical example, and divergences; the CVD indicator guide covers settings.

Limit

A day, week, custom session, or loaded interval produces a different starting point. The time zone and historical bid/ask data matter too. A divergence describes two series that are not moving together; it does not prove absorption or reversal by itself.
