Maximum Loss (Max Loss)

The trader's "kill switch". The daily or weekly limit beyond which you turn off the computer.

Who it's for — For those who have experienced those days where, to recover from a small loss, they ended up blowing half their account in a few hours of madness.

Maximum Loss (Max Loss) is not about a single trade (for that, there is the Stop Loss), but the cumulative limit of losses you allow yourself in a given period (a day or a week).

It is the ultimate life-saving rule. If your Daily Max Loss is -3%, as soon as your portfolio shows a 3% drop that day, you are done trading. You close the platform, turn off the computer, and go for a walk. No excuses.

In simple terms — It's like the bouncer rule at the casino. You walk in with only €200 in your pocket leaving your ATM card at home. When you lose it, the night is over. If you had the ATM card (no Max Loss), the emotion of defeat would push you to withdraw more and more to "win it back", ending up broke.

Preventing Tilt and Revenge Trading

Why is Max Loss so critical? Because after a series of defeats, the human brain enters an altered state known as Tilt. Clarity vanishes and Revenge Trading takes over: you start forcing non-existent trades just to recover the lost money.

The Max Loss is an external circuit breaker that prevents you from making decisions when you are emotionally compromised. Many professional trading platforms allow you to set a Daily Max Loss: once reached, the software physically locks you out and prevents you from placing orders until midnight.
